The Colonel Professor Robert Samut is most known for the music of the English anthem.

However, Samut was not professional in music, but he was very good at melody and composition.

Robert Samut  was an amazing doctor, and a Professor of Physiology, Bacteriology and Pathology.

 

The People

 

Dun Karm Psaila was born on 18 October 1871. In 1923 he became director of the Public Library. In the 1896 his first book came out in Italian language mentioned "Foglie d'oro". He wrote both in Italian and in English. In 1922 he wrote the verses of the Maltese Anthem.

In 1936 Dun Karm Maltese he translated the poem "I sepolcri" of the Italian poet Ugo Foscolo in Maltese. Dun Karm wrote many religious poems, but also wrote other types of poems.

Dun Karm died in 1961. He is now known as the National Poet of Malta.

Dr. Albert Victor Laferla appointed Director of Elementary Schools in 1920. He was an active man and of discipline. As Director helped to raise the level of teachers and reopened the Training School for training teachers. Laferla also started teaching evening classes for adults. The biggest part was when he opened his new secondary schools free for both boys and girls.

Due to the great work done, Dr. Laferla is considered one of the best directors of education in Malta.
